East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania, also known as simply ESU, is a public university located in East Stroudsburg, which is the most populous municipality in Monroe County, in the US state of Pennsylvania, having a population estimated at a number of more than 10 000 inhabitants, during the 2009 census.
East Stroudsburg University began its existence in 1983, when it first started as a preparatory school for teachers, under the name of East Stroudsburg Normal School, later becoming East Stroudsburg State Teachers College, then East Stroudsburg State College, in 1983, the university finally adopting its current name.
ESU currently offers its students 68 undergraduate major programs and 24 available concentrations, in various areas of study which include business management, computer science, psychology, elementary education and other.
The athletic teams from ESU call themselves the Warriors, and they compete in NCAA Division II, for all 10 male and 11 female varsity sports, except wrestling, in which they compete in NCAA Division I. Their distinctive colors are red and black.
